    • Happy rocket noises RIP Abyssal Bombers, but those things are only (very!) effective for defense.

Ok, we're going to Europe, so I demand a Me 163B for non-rankers like me.

    • Oh hey, Zoro's missing sword.

That anti-bomber stat sure is something.

Kinda sad about the plane that surpass the Metal Gear though, even if it's still strong.

    • ...yeah, I had to take a look at how LBAS stats worked because I'm looking at these going "um... okay? These are good... how?"

After looking at the equation for basic air defense, if my math is right, these planes are actually really good, putting the Prototype Shuusui on par with a Raiden in regards to air defense:
      -  Prototype Shuusui - 18
      -  Me 163B - 20
      -  Shuusui - 21

While these aren't superior to Reppuus that were rewarded from Spring, these would make a wonder addition to any base to help defend against LBAS Raids

      Good news!

The devs have already stated that these will be available as rewards for the upcoming event. There was no mention what would be available at what difficulties, but the opportunity exists!

Great! As a German, I'm always happy to see some new tech from my home country (even though the Me 163 was dangerous to fly, and the Shuusui never really worked)!

Looks like I can pick the Toukai from quest F81 now. I never knew if I rather should take the Raiden, but with the Reppuu Kai from last event and one of those new rocket fighters, the Toukai seems better. Two bomber-sweepers should be enough, or do I really need the Raiden too? I don't have a Toukai yet, only a T97 (931) and a T0 Mod 11B (skilled) for anti-sub patrol.

well, 4 bomber sweepers would be enough.

although having toukai can be exceptionally usefull in certain event preboss nodes

the bomber sweeper is more consistently needed, so better to go with raiden if you dont have 4 sweepers yet

    • When I saw the new cards I thought these things were Carrier based jets. I was all ready to go dig out my Top Gun OST for the event. I'm guessing the prototype will be a Hard reward. They look pretty damn cool, I hope I can get all three.

      It's hard to say really...

The Raiden is an awesome aircraft on the defense, and because having to defend your base is a thing even in normal maps (okay, only 6-5), you will get much more use out of it as a general thing.

On the other hand, the Toukai is a *very* strong anti-submarine plane and allows you to deal some damage against subs. In fact, it has been seen as 'required gear' to send against some submarine nodes on harder difficulties. This makes the plane one of those niche pieces of gear that you don't need very often...but when you do, you're glad you have it.

I can't and won't make your decision for you, but I will provide you with my thoughts:

1 - You are going to want to be able to have enough strong fighters/interceptors to make at fill least one LBAS and set to "Defense" (a total of 4). This is because requirng some measure of Air Defense during events is a thing; whether it's 0 damage to your bases, getting Air Superiority or both.

2 - There are other fighters/interceptors that are available via quests:
      - Spitfire MK I (F80) - which upgrades to the Spitfire MK V, which is a strong defender (a little weaker than the Raiden actually)
      - Shiden M11 (F67 - Quarterly) - which upgrades to the Shiden 21, a mediocre plane, but it works in a pinch, especially if you don't have anything better.

3 - The Toukai is very niche; I personally have 2 of them and they have seen very little use...

4 - There will be more events/opportunities for you to get strong aircraft for your base(s) down the road.

      Toukai.

      (Almost) No contest.

      Toukai.

I have 4 of them and they are really useful during events (other ASW planes have less range/power).

Considering on the Shuusui's only ever test flight the engine cut-out and it crashed into a building, and a few days later another blew up on the ground, they might as well be.

It's funny that the Komet gets less stars and worse stats, when it was the better plane irl (the Suusui basically being a cheap reverse engineer).

According to the Wikipedia entry, the Shuusui never got out of the prototype stage and the Me 163b's performance was questionable (had a very low shoot-down-to-loss ratio due to accidents and such). The devs mentioned that the actual plane (that is, the actual Shuusui) is a 'What-If' version that implies that the bugs and kinks to the system were worked out.

Indeed, some historians think that had Operation Downfall occurred Japan would of had these operational. Lord knows they had a lot of Ohkas ready, along with alot of Kamikaze plans.
