  • Thanks for the link to the thread, that was some real drama, and Death Usagi was probably the best admin promotion ever.

  • Hi Nanamin,

I've been using your fleet template for a while. I found some bugs in the process, and want to report them to you.

    Equipments:

381mm/50 Triple Gun Mount Kai -> 381mm/50 Triple Cannon [Redirects to the non-kai equipment]

Type 97 Torpedo Bomber (Tomonaga Squadron) -> Torpeo Bomber (Tomonaga) [Misspelling]

Zero Fighter Model 62 (Fighter-bomber / Iwai Squadron) -> Zero Fighter Model 62 (Fighter-bomber [Gets cut off because of the "/"]

The "/" problem happens with all Iwai planes. Is there a good workaround to this problem, or do you think it's better to submit an equipment rename request to get rid of the slash?

Can you also please tell me what I am doing wrong here? I have 5 submarines in this fleet, but the 5th one never shows up for some reason. I tried retyping everything by hand and changing the fleet order, but I'm totally stumped on how to correct this.

If I do find anymore mistakes, where can I go to fix them without bothering you? Thanks for making this template. It's working great.

  • Hi there,

before bothering my senpais at Stack Overflow, I thought I'd check it before with you since it's strictly about wikia.

When I mess around with coding in web design, and I want two elements separated by a vertical line, I put a
or a <div class="wrapper".../> and I modify it with CSS, or I put an ""hr"" and I rotate it 90° with CSS.

But in wikia, no matter where I write the CSS part, inside the tabber or outside, it appears in plain text inside light blue boxes. I've also tried to register the vertical line in Java first with "document.registerElement('v-r')" but it comes out as plain text too.

So, before I ask around about how to write vertical lines only in html, can you tell me if CSS does not work with tabber, as I am starting to assume? If you're too busy it's fine, you can just tell me to ask elsewhere, no problem.

I see. Thank you, I will try.

And it seems like part of my message disappeared but it was probalby "div style" with the CSS outside since it's one of the approaches I had tried. Anyway, thank you again!

    • I actually semi-expected you to not get that message since I deleted it to test it out first...

    • Oh, maybe that's why it was in smaller font.

It's my first time writing in someone else's message wall so I thought it was the standard format.

  • Heya :) After talking to a lot of your fellow community members in staff, you were nominated as one of the two admin with the greatest technical interest in Wikia's new portable infoboxes.

Although the percentage of KC's traffic from mobile devices is still fairly low, the absolute numbers are impressive. Last month you got some 35k unique visitors via a mobile device. We expect for that number to keep growing. Which is why we'd like to offer you help transitioning to the new style of infobox.

We realise that your main infoboxes, {{EquipmentInfoKai}}, {{ShipInfoKai}} and {{EnemyShipInfoKai}}, are Lua-heavy, and that you're most likely concerned over whether you can preserve that data maintenance in moving to the new infobox code. That's why, sometime this week — but certainly by Friday — we'd like to offer you help from our team of Lua engineers.

We'd like to have them drop by and build at least one sample infobox as a proof of concept. You may find that various staff members will edit your Wikia.css minimally, in an effort to style the infobox prototype to be closer to those you're using now.

I should point out that it is extraordinarily rare for our engineering team to have the time in their schedules to work with individual wikis, and it's certainly a measure of how highly we regard yours that we're able to make this offer to you.

Do you have any objections to us at least trying to deliver this sample infobox to you? (Note that this same message is also being delivered to Ckwng, at the request of other users who were in chat earlier today.)

    • Hey guys :) As I said in my initial post, it's rare for our engineers to have time in their schedules to work directly with a particular community. And unfortunately they ran out of time during their October availability. Your wiki is still ticketed for engineering attention, and the next window is sometime after the 7th December. We've never done this kind of individualised help to a group of communities before and our reach simply exceeded our grasp.

As Ckwng indicated that he wasn't in much of a rush on infobox conversion, I figured there wasn't much imperative to come back here and give updates. I reed the tea leaves wrongly there, and I apologise. I'll try to keep you better apprised from here on out. Please feel free to message me directly if you have any questions.

    • It's no problem, and with the event hitting in a few hours, probably not a good idea to overhaul at this time. I see that some nice features have been pushed to production for portable infoboxes, which is a nice step that will help with a future conversion.

It probably wasn't a good idea to give us a timeframe and not tell us when you found out that you wouldn't be able to meet it though.
