Equipment improvement levels are displayed beside equipment names, starting from ★+1 and up to ★+10 (★+max), they can be gained for certain equipment through Akashi's Improvement Arsenal, and give hidden stat bonuses to a user ship, depending on the equipment and their levels.

## EffectsEdit

• There are no visible stat differences between non-improved and improved equipment.
• Improvements have been shown (or officially announced) to give additive bonuses to the following stats: day battle firepower (shelling) and torpedo (salvos), night battle power (firepower + torpedo), ASW, AA, eLoS, accuracy and torpedo evasion.
• Generally, the bonus is proportional to the square root of the improvement level,$k \sqrt{\bigstar}$, with multiplier coefficient$k$ varying depending on a stat and equipment. This also means that upgrading a higher level equipment would give relatively lower gain per star than upgrading a lower level equipment.
• More precisely, for a given equipment setup and a set of stats, bonuses to stats are assumed to follow the following formula:
$bonus_{stat} = \sum_{eq} k_{stat,eq} \sqrt{\bigstar_{eq}}$
.
• For example, if$stat = fp$ (day battle firepower) and a heavy gun and an AP shell are equipped, then the formula should be interpreted as$bonus_{fp} = k_{fp,gun} \sqrt{\bigstar_{gun}} + k_{fp,ap} \sqrt{\bigstar_{ap}}$ or, using the table below,$1.5 \sqrt{\bigstar_{gun}} + \sqrt{\bigstar_{ap}}$, with basic attack power for day battle shelling being$fp + bonus_{fp} + bonus_{fleet}$ (fleet bonus is 5 for normal fleet). Note that there is no intermediate flooring under summation, that is, for example, if both equipment are at ★+8, then the bonus is$1.5 \sqrt{8} + \sqrt{8} \approx 7.071$, not$\lfloor 1.5 \sqrt{8} \rfloor + \lfloor \sqrt{8} \rfloor = 6$ nor$\left\lfloor 1.5 \sqrt{8} + \sqrt{8} \right\rfloor = 7$. Fractional values can matter when pre-cap modifiers are taken into account, because there is no floor before the pre-cap modifiers are applied. The effect this has is dependent on the value of$fp \pmod 5$.
• The following table shows multipliers for different stats and equipment:[1]

• Accuracy multiplier for various equipment like guns, AP shells, and AA Radar is currently believed to be 1.[12]
• Effects on low morale seem to be lower (that is, the morale modifier is applied).
• Overall accuracy bonus might have an upper limit of 10%, or a limit that depends on type or number of equipment.[citation needed]
• Radar improvements should give accuracy bonus.[13]
• For Seaplane Reconn, no effects are detected so far.[14]
• Accuracy multiplier for torpedo is 2
• In the following table, ○ mean improving the equipment is verified to give extra accuracy in that stage, × mean no change in accuracy have been observed, ？ mean it is still not sure and empty cells mean no test have been done on that yet.[15]

• Sonar improvements increase evasion against enemy torpedo attacks.[17][18]
• Since they also give firepower they could potentially be useful for torpedo squadron maps where dodging closing torpedo salvos often determines whether a run is successful.
• Seaplane Reconn improvements increase Contact Selection Rate, but not Initial Rate.[19]
• Landing Craft and Special Amphibious Tanks improvements give a linear increase to expedition incomes and Anti-Pillbox Damage Bonus in addition to their original bonus. (Refer to linked pages for details)
• As shown in the table, so far there are no known effects on support shelling (firepower bonus is known to be zero).
• Carrier-based Fighter improvement is currently believed to give additional linear ~0.2★ AA in Fighter Power equation per improvement, and Carrier-based Bomber (Fighter-Bomber) is currently believed to give additional linear ~0.25★ AA.
