Actually just because you maintain a good for extended periods of time doesn't mean that the good is doing well in the market. For there to be a second season there either needs to be a small market willing to take all the financial burden (high prices) [Current situation], or that the firms (in this case Kadokawa) lowers prices to broaden the margin of consumers [Not happening].

If the sales projections Kadokawa made both for the film on theaters and home entertainment media (in this case DVD/BD movie release) meets their demand than there is a high demand for the good, but if the losses are significant then the good as an income generator isn't worth it.

If we toss numbers at it then we can precise the current situation not only of the movie, but of the whole kancolle market itself.

Seeing that it has lasted more than four years is an achievement, so the income of the business is profitable at this moment, but can't say how long it'll last just on speculation without serious research.
